VOLUNTEERS

Each construction project requires a minimum of 20 volunteers and a maximum of 40 volunteers. If the minimum number of volunteers is not reached, the scheduled date for the construction activity will have to be postponed. For safety reasons, the number of volunteers per house must not exceed 40 under any circumstances.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULES AND PROCEDURES

Each construction project takes three days. Volunteers must commit to working two 9-hour days (usually from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and one 5-hour day (usually from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). Under no circumstances may the construction process be modified, even if payment for the project has already been made.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES

The participating families will provide simple meals (rice, beans, tortillas) to the volunteers. Construyendo recommends that volunteers bring water and snacks.

T-SHIRTS

Construyendo will provide each volunteer with a T-shirt featuring the Construyendo logo. If a donor wishes to have their logo on the T-shirts, they must send it to Construyendo in “curves” so that it can be incorporated into the design.

MINOR VOLUNTEERS

If volunteers under the age of 18 are participating, at least one adult must be present at all times during construction to supervise them. In addition, each volunteer must submit a liability waiver signed by their parents or guardian.

COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION

Each construction project will have a completion process lasting 3 to 6 weeks following the construction date. Once the work is completed, it will be handed over to the Beneficiaries, and a certificate of completion will be sent to the Donor.
Construyendo agrees to correct any defects that may be found in the work within a period of 3 months from the date of completion.

PENALTIES

Preparing for each construction project requires a great deal of effort on the part of the beneficiaries. In the weeks leading up to construction, they prepare the foundation on which their house will be built. In addition, they are sometimes forced to move out of their homes to clear the area where construction will take place. Furthermore, Construyendo incurs costs related to purchasing materials, visiting beneficiaries, and planning. For these reasons, it is very important that once a construction date has been agreed upon, it not be changed or canceled.

If the Donor is forced to cancel or reschedule the construction date less than 15 days prior to the construction date, the Donor will be liable for a contractual penalty equivalent to 5% of the total project value, which Construyendo may withhold from the advance payments provided. The remainder of the amounts deposited will be refunded to the Donor.
If the project owner cancels or changes the construction date less than 7 days prior to the construction date, the donor will forfeit the entire amount of their donation.

CONSTRUYENDO IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  • Provide quotes and/or arrange for lodging, transportation, or meals.
  • Have an ambulance on site during construction.
  • Install electrical and drinking water connections.
  • Install plumbing connections from the home to the sewer system.
  • Install furniture or accessories that are not on the supply lists.
  • Install flooring; build sidewalks, ramps, or steps.
  • Remove debris and trash from the property.
